Barbarians

Barbarians are raised in tribes, far removed from city life. They are excellent hunters and fierce warriors, skilled in outdoor survival. Barbarians shun and distrust the magical arts.
Characteristics: Barbarians rely mainly on brute strength and brawn. They have shunned magic in favor of sheer physical force. Consequently, they cannot use most magical items, but possess a considerable immunity to magical forces.

Barbarians are one of the best classes to use to become familiar with the game. Being a virtual meat wall, a barbarian can take a bit more of a beating than most other classes early on. The biggest limit that barbarians see is the inability to use magical items. Recall scrolls are one of the most used magical items in the world, and have saved countless lives. Barbarians have to count on a companion reciting one such scroll to rescue the barbarian from some perils. The boons of a barbarians hit points and spell resistance, however, compensate for the hindrances of not having magical tools.

Role Playing Suggestions:

• Barbarians are often tribal people from less civilized parts of the world. The reason for their travel varies, from lost homeland to being outcasts from the society they grew up in.
• A barbarian could also be someone who is intelligent but simply shuns magic.
• Yet another possibility is an unusual character (such as a smirking child) to have been infused with some sort of power that contradicts their physical appearance.
